At The Library

Ok, so Evan and I are at the library for story time.  There's a big room and all the kids and parents are sitting on the floor.  The story lady is up front with here table and props and there's a white tape line that the kids are not supposed to cross.  There's a particular child ( I would say about 18 months old) that is running around like a hellion, tripping over people, going up and touching the lady's stuff etc., annoying everyone in the room and the mom just follows him around like a puppy dog with a smile on her face.  It's not cute lady!  It's so annoying to watch.
So, the teacher gets out her jingle bells and all the kids get to shake them during the song.  Then at the end the kids go up and put them back in her bag.  Evan's walking up there minding his own business, puts his bell away and is walking back.  This particular little boy looks at him, and then open hand slaps him across the face!  He slapped Evan so hard he fell over and hit his forehead on another little girls knee.  Evan and the little girl are crying and the little boy just  stands there.  Then to top it off his mom just comes and picks him up, looks at me and walks away. What!?  You say?  I know!  An apology goes a long way lady!!!!!!!  Evan's sitting there crying, tears streaming down his face with a hand mark on his cheek and a bump/bruise on his forehead.  I was so furious, and so were all the other moms around me!
Then after story time we head over to the children's section to read books.  As soon as I get over there I see him pushing another lady's stroller and his mom trying to get him to stop and then he runs over to the toy area and steps on another little boy and pushes another boy out of his way.  Then he runs over to some random lady and slaps his hands in her lap.  All the while the mom smiling, following him around and just picking him up and moving him.  That's not cutting it lady!  I thought about showing her how it's done and getting in her child's face, but really what good would that do.  I'm still mad about it, can you tell?
Nothing irritates me more than seeing parents let their kids do whatever they want to other people in public and not disciplining them.  I'm not perfect by any means and I know every kid has their moments, but you deal with them, and you apologize to people!  Obviously this kid was not having a "moment" It seems to be just how he acts, and I'm scared for what he's going to be like when he's older.  I know you're thinking, why didn't you say something Charla?  Well I almost did and then her husband walked up behind her and they were speaking another language and then I chickened out :)

oooo, that's really maddening, but gird up your loins because it will happen again. even in our ward, there's some more laid-back moms that don't do a whole lot while their kids are bullying other kids around. i'm getting all ticked off just thinking about it.

Oh Man if Olivia and I were there I so would have said something to that lady! I'm outraged too! Hopefully they aren't there next Wednesday. Poor Evan by the way! He's so sweet.

Oh man, it's so frustrating! We were at the park last Saturday, and there was a kid about 3, and he was being SO mean to Kai, while the mom was there, not doing anything. Finally I picked Kai up, told him some kids are just mean (loud enough for the mom to hear) and we went to the other side of the park. It's just so rude! I get totally fired up too....poor Cameron had an earful to listen to on the way home!

Whoa! That is a huge pet peeve of mine as well. I would've LOVED to see you go off on that lady as I fully expected you to do. A couple of my older sisters take the non punishing approach and it irritates me to no end. They think their kids are so perfect,no matter how devilish they are. On many an occasion I have spanked them myself in front of their mothers! I highly recommend it :)

That would make me so mad. I can't stand it when parents let their kids act like that and they just think it is so cute.
